Advanced Placement (AP)

Advanced Placement Program (AP) courses developed by CollegeBoard provide high school students with the opportunity to explore and engage in college level curriculum and materials.  AP courses are rigorous and require students to develop and demonstrate the skills and knowledge necessary for success in post-secondary education.

AP courses can dramatically improve a student's chances of getting into college and be better prepared once he or she is there. Studies have shown that students who take AP courses and exams are much more likely to complete a bachelor's degree in four years or less. AP helps students improve their writing skills, learn problem-solving techniques, and develop rigorous study habits. After taking an AP course, students have the opportunity to take the corresponding AP Exam held each year in May, which, depending on their score, could earn them college credit and save them (and you!) time and money.

Roseville Specific Courses

Roseville High School offers several Advanced Placement courses in the six different subject areas. Our AP courses are open to all students that are ready and eager to take on the challenge of the most rigorous courses offered to our high school students.  Some pre-requisites do apply for enrollment in AP courses as outlined in the RHS Tracks Through Roseville High School Course Catalog.

AP Potential® / PSAT & NMSQT®

AP Potential is based on student performance on the annual Preliminary Scholastic Aptitude Test (PSAT).  Collegeboard research has shown that PSAT/NMSQT scores are excellent predictors of students' AP Exam grades. In addition to looking at traditional signposts, such as a student's grades in previous same-discipline course work, Roseville High school will use AP Potential to help us find more students who may be capable of meeting the challenges presented by AP course work. We strongly encourage each of our students to participate in the PSAT offered each October at our campus beginning at least in the sophomore year to best identify AP courses that meet your students' strengths and interests.
